Primary Learning Outcomes

  1. Understand the fundamental fluid mechanics and conservation laws governing hydraulic processes in natural river channels.
  2. Develop a critical awareness of the systems of equations typically used in most 1D, 2D and 3D hydraulic models, such that you can a) recognize what forms and assumptions are employed when reading scholarly literature describing hydraulic modeling, and b) assess the appropriateness of the assumptions and applications to specific applications and/or research questions.
  3. Become proficient at the basic application of 1D and 2D hydraulic models to characterize steady-state flow conditions.
  4. Have a working understanding of the primary types of ecohydraulic habitat models and how to run them for specific species at specific lifestages.
